I’ve been part of the Pinterest bandwagon for a few years now. When Pinterest first came to light I didn’t see a reason for me to use it. At first it seemed it had one purpose and that was for women to plan their wedding. I’ll admit, I eventually used pinterest to gather ideas for my wedding as well. However, I started using pinterest because I wanted to find creative ideas for my woodworking/ craft projects. I decided I needed to create a new account for professional purposes which I posted the link to off to the right of this blog. It was a different scenario signing up for my new Pinterest account- first I had technical issues: the password box wouldn’t allow me to type. The second interesting difference was this time I didn’t have to be “approved/ invited” to access my Pinterest account. When I created my first account they said they would send me an email within a few days inviting me to complete my account. It made it seem like I was entering an exclusive club. Now they just let anyone get an account :)
While exploring I came across the new feature of Pinterest- Buyable Pins, which I think is currently for iOS users only. Now you can look at everything Pinterest has to offer and if there is a blue pin associated with the item then you will be given the option to purchase. Look out world- a new way to shop is coming to a device near you.
Oh my goodness, it completely slipped my mind that Pinterest was initially exclusive at first! Haha. Initially, I thought it was mostly for those planning their weddings, but it's definitely more than that now! Pinterest is where I find inspiration for craft ideas, clothing/style, make-up tips, exercise tips. Of course, the downside is that some of these tips might not be very helpful or would even work, but it is a great place to look for some inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYes, there is a lot of valuable information on Pinterest, but like most things the user needs to be weary of false claims/ information. I mostly use if for crafting so the craft project either works or I create a better version!
ReplyDeleteYour post articulates everything I was thinking as I explored Pinterest for this course! And I giggle remembering how I had to wait for an invite to join! I think Pinterest has gown so much partly because of all the different brands and companies that use pinterest as advertising. They are often popping up as "promoted pins". I haven't checked out the buyable pins yet, but it sounds like a great idea! Especially since some pins lead to error pages and not the shopping page they are supposed to.
